But life had other plans, and self-doubt steered me toward a more "sensible" path. Marriage, motherhood, customer service roles, and eventually becoming a driving instructor. Safe. Predictable. Soul-crushingly ordinary.
But here's the thing about creativity – it never really goes away, does it? It just waits patiently for the right moment to burst back into your life.
The Awakening
When my children were small, I ran a baby and toddler group. Standing in front of parents and little ones, leading activities, storytelling, and singing nursery rhymes, something magical happened – I was performing again! That spark I'd buried under years of "should dos" and "supposed tos" suddenly roared back to life.
This led me into care home entertainment in 2013, where I truly flourished. Getting people moving, laughing, reminiscing, and most importantly, singing! I dress in vintage costumes (40s, 50s, 60s – give me all the eras!), create themed performances, and spread pure joy. The best part? It never feels like work because it's simply playing, engaging, and connecting with people.
The Moment Everything Changed
Then came the wedding that transformed everything. The celebrant was phenomenal – full of life, humor, and personality. I'd never even realized this role existed in the UK! Watching her craft an experience rather than just conduct a ceremony, I saw myself up there. Everything I loved – storytelling, performance, bringing flair to life's biggest moments – rolled into one incredible calling.

Reclaiming My Fearless Self
After a motorcycle accident in the early ‘90’s, I convinced myself that chapter was closed. Life moved on and I buried that adventurous side of myself. Until three years ago, I was brave enough to travel pillion again. The thrill, the freedom, the sheer joy of the ride - it all came flooding back.
I couldn't stay a passenger forever. Facing my fears head-on, I took my full bike license and reclaimed that adventure on my own terms. It wasn't just about riding again; it was proof that I could rewrite my own story, push past limits, and embrace life with fearless determination.
